FORT WORTH, Texas - The U.S Army Corps of Engineers at Whitney Lake are now issuing hunting permits for the 2012-2013 hunting season. If you hunted during the 2011-2012 hunting season you may renew your permit online this year. If you did not submit your hunter's survey by June 21 you are currently blocked for the 2012-2013 hunting season and may reapply in August 2013. FORT WORTH, Texas - U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lewisville Lake are prepared for a fun filled and safe Labor Day weekend. Park rangers along with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department game wardens will be in and out of the water to ensure patrons are safe and informed. Lewisville Lake is visited by over a million people annually and is one of the most visited lakes in Texas. Unfortunately, there have been seven deaths so far this year at Lewisville Lake. FORT WORTH, Texas - Camping fees at Fort Worth District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers parks will be waived for evacuees and disaster relief workers impacted by Tropical Storm Isaac. A policy allows commanders to waive camping fees at Corps operated parks for evacuees as space availability allows. First priority is given to those with reservations but every effort will be made to accommodate evacuees. FORT WORTH, Texas - U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Grapevine Lake announce temporary closure of boat ramps in Murrell Park and City of Grapevine operated Dove Loop ramp in Oak Grove Park. The ramps will be closed Monday, August 13, to allow U.S. Geological Survey dive teams to survey the lake for presence of zebra mussels. Dive teams are scheduled to begin the survey in the morning and should allow for ramps to reopen by mid-afternoon. Cooperation during the temporary closure times is appreciated. FORT WORTH, Texas - The New Mexico Environmental Department issued a permit to the Army in December 2005 defining the requirements necessary for the cleanup of environmental contamination, munitions and explosives at Fort Wingate Depot Activity before property can be transferred to the Department of the Interior. The permit requires extensive consultation with the Pueblo of Zuni and the Navajo Nations as the tribes will ultimately receive any land the Army transfers to DOI. However, federal law also requires the Army to involve other stakeholders from the surrounding communities in the cleanup process. Read more of NR12-036...

FORT WORTH, Texas - U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, in its ongoing initiatives to decrease accidents and fatalities on its area lakes encourage visitors to have fun, stay safe, and make it home alive during the Fourth of July holiday. The Fort Worth District hosts 25 million visitors at its 25 lakes where people enjoy fishing, boating, hiking and more. While outdoor recreation is fun and healthy, the Corps reminds the public that water safety is also important. Swimming in open water is more difficult than in a swimming pool. Statistics show that 90 percent of those who drown at USACE lakes and rivers may have survived if they had worn a life jacket. Read more of NR12-034...

The levee protects the city of Kopperl, Texas and has been evaluated separately from the Whitney Dam because the consequences of failure are separate from the Whitney Dam main embankment. FORT WORTH, Texas - The Dallas City Council today approved an agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers under which the City agrees to repay $7 million it had never spent within 30 days. The Corps of Engineers is conducting an audit of City expenditures for the construction of levees protecting the Central Waste Water Treatment Plant and Rochester Park. The Corps agrees to credit the City for those expenditures verified by the auditors against the remaining $8 million it owes.
