FORT WORTH, Texas - The National Recreation Reservation Service (NRRS) for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service facilities will not be available from Sept. 30 through Oct. 17. Campgrounds and recreation facilities managed by the Corps and the Forest Service will be converted to a new reservation software system this fall. Due to this conversion, reservation services will not be available for Corps or Forest Service facilities beginning at midnight Eastern Standard Time Sept. 30 through 10:00 a.m. EST Oct. 17. This means that reservations, changes or cancellations will not be available through the call center or internet (Recreation.gov) during this time. FORT WORTH, Texas - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Sam Rayburn Lake has reopened the Twin Dikes public boat ramp. The ramp was temporarily closed for repaving and repair work. A boat launch fee of $3 or a current annual pass is required to launch.Read more of CESWF-PA-07-53...

FORT WORTH, Texas - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake O' The Pines will be issuing permits to people with disabilities for All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) usage during the 2007 hunting season (September 24, 2007 through January 1, 2008) at the hunting area south of the dam and west of Cypress Creek. Permits will be distributed at the Project Office beginning September 10, 2007; there will be no charge for the permits at this time. People interested in obtaining a permit must provide a written certification from a physician stating that they have a "permanent ambulatory disability". FORT WORTH, Texas - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, continues to release stored flood water at Proctor Lake so that water levels can return to conservation pool levels. FORT WORTH, Texas - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, has opened several park areas at Waco Lake. The park areas were closed due to flooding but through volunteer efforts and contract services, the following parks will be reopened this weekend for use. Opening today are Midway Park and Speegleville Park campgrounds. Opening Saturday are Twin Bridges, Airport Beach, Koehne Park, Midway Park and Speegleville Park boat ramps and Twin Bridges Beach and picnic area. FORT WORTH, Texas - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, has implemented a life jacket loaner program at Sam Rayburn Lake. The life jackets are loaned at no cost to visitors to the lake. The life jacket loaner program is available for any visitor who needs a life jacket and they are available in various sizes. FORT WORTH, Texas - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, has temporarily closed the Twin Dikes Public Boat Ramp for necessary repair work. The boat ramp is located on Sam Rayburn Reservoir next to the Umphrey Family Pavilion on Hwy 255. The boat ramp will be closed beginning Aug. 13 - 31, for repair and paving. FORT WORTH, Texas - Widespread rains are over at the present time with scattered thunderstorms continuing over Texas. Tuesday night's storms extended along the Red River from Gainesville to Texarkana with rainfall accumulations totaling from 2.0 to 2.5 inches. FORT WORTH, Texas - As the rains have diminished and most rivers have receded into their banks, the Fort Worth District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has begun releasing flood waters from its lakes. At Lewisville Dam, the floodgates were opened Sunday morning in an effort to lower the lake below the spillway crest. FORT WORTH, Texas - U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials with the Fort Worth District are continuing their vigilance of lakes and levees. The heavy rains around the city of Cameron have caused the Little River to jump its banks. To minimize the flooding downstream, the flood gates at Granger, Belton and Stillhouse Lakes were closed Thursday. The elevation at Whitney peaked at 558 feet early today and is falling. FORT WORTH, Texas - Officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, are keeping a 24-hour watch on its 25 lakes in Texas. All Corps lakes are operating as designed and all dams are structurally sound. There are some slides on the levees in the Dallas area. FORT WORTH, Texas -Due to current flooding conditions, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Waco Lake announced today that all parks and boat ramps are closed indefinitely. The closures apply to all recreation facilities, roads, and boat ramps. As these facilities dry out, any needed repairs will be made and areas reopened. Swimming and boating are not recommended due to underwater hazards such as submerged roads, signs, structures, stumps and land formations as well as debris floating in the lake. FORT WORTH, Texas - Recent rains at Stillhouse Hollow Lake have caused it to rise 12 feet into the flood pool resulting in the closing of several park areas. The day use and camping areas of Dana Peak, Cedar Gap, Rivers Bend, and Stillhouse Parks are closed. FORT WORTH, Texas - Work is nearing completion on the embankment and flood gate structure at Town Bluff Project, which has kept B. A. Steinhagen Lake dry for nearly eight months. Beginning last June, the lake was drained in an attempt to halt the rapid growth of nuisance aquatic vegetation, such as water hyacinth and hydrilla, which has plagued the shallow lake for years. The drawdown was planned to last until September 2006; however, during inspection of the dam in mid-summer it was determined that the opportunity could not be passed up to perform some routine repairs to the structure.Read more of CESWF-PA-07-28...

FORT WORTH, Texas - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers sponsored a lakeshore cleanup at Whitney Lake on May 5. Despite a questionable weather forecast, nearly 100 volunteers participated. After getting registered at McCown Valley Group Shelter, groups spent the morning picking up trash from public lands around Lake Whitney. Following the cleanup, a men's group from Peace Lutheran Church of Arlington cooked brisket and hotdogs for lunch, and volunteers enjoyed time to socialize and the opportunity to win a door prize.Read more of CESWF-PA-07-27...

FORT WORTH, Texas - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will open the new Speegleville Park Camping Area on May 25. Speegleville Park is located off of U.S. Highway 6 and Overflow Road near the Lake Waco Marina. FORT WORTH, Texas - Annual Day Use Passes will be available for sale at Rocky Creek and North Holiday Parks beginning April 30, 2007. This pass entitles the holder and all accompanying passengers in the vehicle to use, without additional charge, all day use facilities at U.S. Army Corps of Engineers operated parks for one year from the date of issue. The pass is not valid for camping fees or entrance into campgrounds. North Holiday Park is located at 400 Lakeview Drive, Benbrook, TX, and is operated from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily. Rocky Creek Park is located at 5900 Rocky Creek Park Rd, Crowley, TX, and is operated from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily. FORT WORTH, Texas - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, Lovejoy Independent School District, and several other agencies will participate in a community service day at Lavon Lake, April 26 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Over 650 students, sixth through eighth grades, and 150 volunteers will complete a shoreline cleanup between Highland and Brockdale Parks, perform trail work along the hiking and equestrian trails at Trinity Trails, and participate in several educational programs. FORT WORTH, Texas - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, cautions fishermen at Sam Rayburn Dam to heed warning signals. Low water levels downstream of Town Bluff Reservoir, which is undergoing repairs, have enticed fishermen to walk or wade in areas not usually accessible below the Sam Rayburn Dam Power Plant. PLANO, Texas -United States Attorney Matthew D. Orwig announced today that a settlement has been reached regarding damages to the land and fish habitat at Lewisville Lake. Kerr Real Estate, Inc. and Frank Kerr have agreed to pay for damages on and near their new development on the Hickory Creek Arm of Lewisville Lake known as The Bluffs at Pinnell Pointe. FORT WORTH, Texas - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Fort Worth has noted that recent early-season drownings on Corps lakes have a lot in common. FORT WORTH, Texas - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Lavon Lake, announced today that a special hog hunting opportunity will open Feb. 1 and run through March 31, 2007. Permits will be awarded on a first-come first-serve basis to individuals who complete the hunting permit application. The hunting area will be divided into sections of approximately 400-600 acres and permitted hunters will have access to these areas. Certain special harvest methods will be allowed. FORT WORTH, Texas - On January 1, a new discount program, the America the Beautiful Interagency Pass, is scheduled to go into effect. This program replaces the Golden Eagle Passport, Golden Age Passport, Golden Access Passport, and the National Parks pass. There are three types of The America the Beautiful Interagency Pass. The Annual Pass is available to anyone, is valid for a 12-month period, and costs $80. The Senior Pass is available to citizens or permanent residents of the United States who are 62 years of age and older. It is valid for the lifetime of the holder and costs $10. The Access Pass is available to permanently disabled citizens and permanent residents of the United States. It's free and valid for the lifetime of the holder. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will not accept the America the Beautiful Annual Pass nor will they be sold at Corps facilities. FORT WORTH, Texas - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, will utilize a separate summer and winter gate schedule at Bosque Park and the Waco Dam Hike and Bike Trail entrances beginning in 2007. These changes will help with management of the parks for the hours when the majority of people like to use the facilities. Between November and March, the gates will remain open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., while from April through October the gates will open at 6:00 a.m. and close at 10:00 p.m. to accommodate longer summer month daylight hours. FORT WORTH, Texas - The New Mexico Environmental Department issued a permit to the Army in December 2005 defining the requirements necessary for the cleanup of environmental contamination, munitions and explosives at Fort Wingate Depot Activity (FWDA) before property can be transferred to the Department of the Interior. The permit requires extensive consultation with the Pueblo of Zuni and the Navajo Nation as the tribes will ultimately receive any land the Army transfers to DOI. FORT WORTH, Texas - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be performing maintenance work on the Whitney Lake Dam. Traffic will be reduced to one lane on Highway 22 across the dam. The construction period will begin November 27 and end December 21. Travelers along Highway 22 can expect travel delays during the daylight hours, but both lanes will be open in the evenings. FORT WORTH, Texas - U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials announced today that Friendship Park at Granger Lake will temporarily close within the next couple of weeks for road repairs. Although a contract has been awarded, the exact start date has not been scheduled. Due to safety concerns and the contractor moving in heavy equipment, the park will be closed until completion of the project which is expected to take 60 days.
